Join Amelia Island Opera at Story & Song Center for Arts & Culture for an evening of operatic fun! Bon Appétit! & Service Provider: A delicious double-bill, will take place at Story & Song Center for Arts & Culture on February 11 and 12, 2023. Lee Hoiby’s short opera, Bon Appetit!, is a comedic take on a classic episode of Julia Child’s popular television show, The French Chef. Local soprano Robyn Marie Lamp stars as the flamboyant Julia, teaching the makings of a classic chocolate cake - Le Gateau au Chocolat 'Eminence Brune' - and, after the performance, audiences will enjoy a slice of chocolate cake courtesy of Story & Song. This production of Bon Appétit! is generously sponsored by Paul Bosland and Publix.
Service Provider by Christopher Weiss and John de los Santos is a witty spoof of America's obsession with cell phones. Featuring local singers Avery Boettcher, Victoria Isernia, and John Tibbetts, along with North Carolina-based tenor Logan Z. Webber, this opera tells the story of a couple whose anniversary dinner in a restaurant devolves into chaos because of the wife’s constant texting and the intrusion of the husband’s mistress.
Ukrainian pianist Daria Ruzhynska will accompany the evening's two operas and John de los Santos, the librettist of Service Provider and acclaimed opera director, will direct this hilarious operatic double-bill. An audience Q&A session with John and the performers will be conducted at the end of each evening’s performance. Tickets are $35 and are available at the links above or by calling Story & Song at (904) 601-2118.
This 60-minute double bill marks the first full-scale production for Amelia Island Opera. Artists Daria Ruzhynska, John de los Santos, Logan Webber, and Avery Boettcher have been generously sponsored by Ji Yung Lee, Ron and Lisa Flick, Pat & Rob Stichweh, and Gary and Toni Myers.
